This document presents a coordinated framework for improving cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and end of life car within the criminal justice system in the West Midlands.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Cancer in the Criminal Justice System: Model Ways of Working document.

Co‑produced with colleagues across our Health & Justice network, this framework sets out clear, consistent standards for cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, aftercare, end‑of‑life care, and probation support for people in the criminal justice system.

Developed in response to significant health inequalities, the work has been shaped by prison healthcare providers, HMPPS, NHS England, West Midlands ICBs, NHS Trusts, people with lived experience, and family support services. Their insight has helped identify current barriers and variations in practice that affect cancer outcomes.
