Breast

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK.

About one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There is a good chance of recovery if it is detected in its early stages.

The overall aim of the Breast Expert Advisory Group (EAG) is to provide specialist advice and guidance to the West Midlands Cancer Alliance (WMCA) Board on the standards of service for patients with breast cancer reflecting current best practice and opportunities for development.

The Breast EAG aims to ensure that patients with breast cancer receive high quality equitable cancer care throughout the West Midlands regardless of geography or socio-economic factors and will, wherever possible, endeavour to improve the standard of care provided.

Chair: Dr Raghavan Vidya, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast & General Surgeon, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

Deputy Chair: Dr Ravi Dandamudi, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

Breast Pain Resources:

  • Breast Pain Infographic - GatewayC February 2022

The following training video, developed in collaboration with GatewayC, provides practical guidance for primary care professionals on assessing patients who present with chest or rib pain that may be breast‑related.

It offers clear advice on how to examine, manage and reassure patients appropriately, while strengthening understanding of common causes of breast pain and when onward referral is needed. The resource is designed to support confident, consistent clinical practice and improve patient experience across primary care settings.
