Cervical screening, which used to be called smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. It's offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.

NHS England Commissioner hold Laboratory contracts across West and East Midlands, both Laboratories work closely with all Midlands Primary Care and receive, analyse/result the cervical samples of eligible patients. All patients' results should be issued by 14 days turn-around-time (TAT)
We also contract directly with a range of Sexual Health Service Providers across West and East Midlands who offer open access cervical screening to eligible patients who are currently in regular contract with these services (i.e. HIV patients) and or to those patients who chose not to access their GP to undertake their screen. Sexual Health access offers an alternative access route to support cervical screening awareness and contributes to a reduction in health inequalities.
We also support Health and Justice Prisons Health Care Teams to facilitate the offer of cervical screening to eligible patients who reside in Midlands detained estates. Although NHSE are not responsible for the commissioning of the region's colposcopy service and pathway requirements, commissioners have a vested interest to support and inform the effective delivery of this part of the pathway given the onward referrals from cervical screening.
