Working closely with Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM), the Alliance assisted Quibim’s application to the NHS Cancer Programme’s Innovation Open Call, which is supported by SBRI Healthcare and the Accelerated Access Collaborative.
The funding will support a national evaluation of QP-Prostate®, an AI-powered software that helps radiologists detect prostate cancer earlier and more accurately from MRI scans.
QP-Prostate® has shown promising results, helping radiologists detect an additional 10.6% of early-stage cancers. Over the next two years, the software will be deployed in eight NHS hospitals across England, assessing more than 3,000 patients. The project will also evaluate cost-effectiveness, health inequalities, and patient perspectives on AI in cancer care.
West Midlands Cancer Alliance will play an important role in supporting the implementation and adoption of QP-Prostate, whilst keeping stakeholders informed around its progression.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with more than 52,000 new cases and 12,000 deaths each year. This two-year trail supports the NHS Long Term Plan goal to diagnose 75% of cancers at stage 1 or 2 by 2028.
