At West Midlands Cancer Alliance, we understand the unique challenges the LGBTIQ+ community faces within healthcare, especially when dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

We’re proud to have partnered with OUTpatients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ cancer charity, to offer our primary and secondary care workforce training on how to make cancer care more inclusive for LGBTIQ+ people.

The primary care sessions are suitable for both clinical and non-clinical colleagues and will cover a variety of topics including:

• Differences in the LGBTIQ+ cancer patient experience
• Supporting screening among LGBTIQ+ people
• The cervical screening opt-in update

The dedicated secondary care sessions will cover:

• Barriers to equitable care

• Differences in the LGBTIQ+ cancer patient experience across the cancer pathway
• How to support trans and non-binary patients

All sessions will cover LGBTIQ+ language and terminology, pronouns and inclusive language, and how to create inclusive environments that facilitate disclosure.

Sessions are free to book onto and are running at various dates/times throughout early June.
